Introduction

For 48 years, the most significant “hidden” area beneath (or rather, within) Elvis Presley’s home, Graceland, has been his private upstairs sanctuary. This area, including his bedroom and bathroom, was sealed off and kept exactly as he left it on the day he passed away in 1977.

While there are many myths and rumors surrounding Graceland’s “secrets,” the primary reason the upstairs has remained off-limits to the public is out of respect for Elvis’s privacy and as a way to preserve his personal space as a sacred memory. It’s a way for the family to maintain a sense of his presence and the last moments of his life.

Various sources mention that even presidents and other dignitaries have been denied access to this private area. The idea is to keep it as a untouched time capsule of the King’s personal world. While some videos and articles may sensationalize “discoveries” or “unlocking” of these rooms, the general understanding is that the upstairs remains private and preserved.

Beyond the upstairs, there are other “hidden” aspects of Graceland, such as:

  • A secret fireproof, earthquake-proof, and tornado-proof room on the grounds that houses Elvis’s most precious possessions, including movie posters, checks, clothing (like 88 jumpsuits), over 60,000 photographs, sunglasses, and jewelry. Lisa Marie Presley herself revealed this room in a private tour with Oprah Winfrey.
  • The basement, which also contains personal items and recreational spaces like the billiard room.

Ultimately, the most prominent and consistently “hidden” part of Graceland is the upstairs, held private as a tribute to Elvis.
