Inside Elvis Presley's Graceland including huge attic and what the King kept - Celebrity News - Entertainment - Daily Express US

Recently, several YouTube videos have been circulating with sensational headlines claiming that Elvis Presley’s attic at Graceland was finally opened after nearly five decades, supposedly revealing something “shocking.” These videos use dramatic language and emotionally charged thumbnails to pull in viewers. But the truth behind these claims is far less mysterious — and far more grounded in well-documented archival work.

According to Graceland’s official archives staff, the attic has not been sealed away untouched for 48 years, nor did its opening lead to any extraordinary revelations. In fact, the items stored in the attic have already been carefully moved, sorted, and preserved as part of Graceland’s ongoing historical preservation efforts. Angie Marchese, Director of Archives at Graceland, has spoken openly about this. She explained that the attic once held deeply personal belongings, including items that once belonged to Elvis’s beloved mother, Gladys Presley, memorabilia from Elvis’s time in the U.S. Army, some of Lisa Marie Presley’s early baby clothing, and older household furnishings and décor.

These items were not “hidden” or “newly discovered.” Instead, they were respectfully transferred to controlled archival storage, where they could be properly protected from deterioration and studied for historical context. Many of the items have even appeared over the years in rotating museum exhibits and anniversary displays.

It’s important to distinguish the attic from another area of Graceland — the upstairs living space. Elvis’s private quarters, including his bedroom and the bathroom where he passed away, remain strictly closed to the public. This section has been preserved just as it was when Elvis lived there, out of respect for the Presley family. Only a very small number of individuals, generally close relatives and authorized archivists, have permission to enter that area.

The claims of a shocking attic discovery are largely overblown narratives created to generate clicks, not the result of any credible reporting. The real story is far quieter and more respectful: Graceland continues to honor the Presley family by preserving their personal history with care and dignity — not by turning it into sensationalized spectacle.
