Introduction

During a live show in Indianapolis on April 3, 2025, Ronnie Dunn — one half of the celebrated country duo Brooks & Dunn — unexpectedly walked offstage in the middle of the group’s encore performance of “Boot Scootin’ Boogie.” The abrupt exit left the audience confused and concerned, especially since many concertgoers had already sensed that something wasn’t quite right earlier in the night.

Shortly after the performance, a spokesperson for the band clarified that Dunn’s departure was health-related. The representative explained that Dunn had been performing while sick and was dealing with both strep throat and COVID-19, a combination he reportedly joked about by calling it “strovid.” He had previously addressed his condition during an earlier show in Houston, telling the crowd, “Flu and strep aren’t a singer’s best friends.”

Footage from the Indianapolis concert soon spread across social media, revealing Dunn appearing noticeably fatigued throughout the performance. At several points, he sat on the stage steps while singing. During the encore, he encouraged the audience to finish the chorus, saying, “Sing it if you know it,” before signaling to the band that he could no longer continue. He placed a hand to his chest, waved to fans, and quietly exited the stage. Some attendees also reported that his voice sounded strained and breathless and shared that he had briefly stepped backstage earlier during the concert.

Though the moment caused widespread worry among fans, the band’s team later reassured the public that Dunn was improving and expected to resume touring without major interruptions. True to that statement, Dunn was back onstage just 48 hours later for the next scheduled performance.

While the incident was unsettling to witness, many fans praised Dunn for his unwavering commitment to performing despite being seriously ill. His determination to continue the show — even under difficult circumstances — demonstrated the level of dedication he has maintained throughout his decades-long career.
